Time

I thought I would have time for a blog. Then I had an interview, had to jump through some hoops, and now I have a job that my degree helped me get! After 5 months of looking, of course. I am lucky. I start tomorrow and I couldn't be more excited. I am having trouble sleeping and my appetite is gone. Hopefully, I will love it and I will make a difference in the lives of these kids.
Another reason why I am lucky... despite the fact that he is looking at me like I am crazy.

Yes, that is toothpaste on my face (he actually applied it to my face) because I had a huge mole size pimple on my face. You can't start a job working with kids with a pimple like that! And he even told me how beautiful I was sans make up and application of toothpaste :)

I know once I get used to my new schedule I will blog more, but life just might get in the way a bit. But I like having a record of things I like in life and what's going on. I am horrible with journals and typing is easier, so this may work out ;)

A video I find fitting for this moment in my life:

Cake Toppers!

I have become obsessed with CAKE TOPPERS... Mainly because I love everything wedding lovely and everything vintage. When you combined the two I want to cry. Who wouldn't want a dainty, hand painted, fragile lovely on top of their cake? Of course we all do. However, I think I became addicted to cake toppers because I was looking for the perfect one. I NEED a brunette groom and a brown/blonde bride. I just want to play with them... I don't want to save it for when I get married... That would be sillly.... ANYWAYS... Also, they are reasonably priced and if you have gotten married, getting married, or obsessed with wedding stuff like me, you know if you ask about WEDDING PRICES, things seem to be x10. You're having a party okay $100 bucks, "oh, you're getting married I WANT YOUR SOUL." Sound familiar? But with vintage wedding toppers you can find an assortment of pretty little couples and hey, they may need some revamping, but all in all, they are perfect little treasures to put on a cake. Don't believe me? Check out these cuties! Who cares if they were Frances and Bernies 40th wedding anniversary mementos! They would look fantastic on a three tiered cake! Or ten tiers, however you roll.

Get the above beauty here: 23 Burton Avenue

While vintage is always something I am drawn to, there is nothing like a personalized pair of mini you's. We are all narcissistic! These next creations can be a little pricey, but you are getting QUALITY WORK and not QUANTITY of something ten million other brides already had on their cake! I particularly like these because I could never replicate these at home. I think I am talented, I dabble in paints, but really, these take REAL talent. The perfect little noses and lips. Oh and the details on their outfits! I die!

Made to order gems can be ordered here: Dandelionland

For all the people I offended when I said we are all narcissistic and you are thinking, I'm original, I'm unique, but I don't want a mini me... CERAMIC WONDERS! I almost cried when I found these amazing cake toppers! I lovingly call my boyfriend a giraffe because he is a giant compared to me and he is covered in beautiful little spots, I mean moles, hahaha. And I am in love with Unicorns! I literally wanted to buy one, but not even being engaged, I might be committed. BUT, for all you wonderful engaged lovely's out there! Melabo has lots of creatures to choose from and even human forms now, if you want to be "normal" and less animalistic. I prefer her creative mutated beast couples :)

The unique ceramic couple can be found here: Melabo

Think I'm crazy yet?

Going Green!

Part of why I like crafting and what I hope to do in more of my crafting adventures is to re-purpose and recycle materials. I was super excited when my boyfriend had to come up with and build something environmentally friendly for a major class project. I wish he didn't have as many group members because I would have totally helped. So what did the boyfriend build?

A SOLAR WATER HEATER!!! How awesome is that? They did buy some of the materials, but a lot of what they used were "throw aways" from a house remodel!!! There are so many amazing things one can build and by using recycled products you can make them at almost no cost! You win, Mother Earth wins, and maybe our children will have land to play on that isn't over garbage, so they win too!

Here's the video they will be using as proof that their solar water heater works for their presentation on Thursday!

I could use some of that water for a cup of tea right now! Too bad it's overcast and raining!

P.S. My man is the hunk behind the camera and if you follow the voice he makes an appearance in a grey and black stripped long sleeve! Cutie!!

Cheap Meal Equals Bad Idea

Like I have mentioned, I LOVE FOOD BLOGS! One blog that I am a huge fan of is The 99 Cent Chef! Meals made from the 99 cent only store, uh hello, that is right in my budget. I have used some of his ideas to spice up some meals and I thought his dishes looked delicious, but I hadn't replicated a meal until tonight. Now, I know I am no Julia Child and I definitely burn things on a regular bases, but I didn't really think I could fug up this recipe.

The 99 Cent Chef's: Spaghetti alla Carbonara with Bacon Bits

I assembled the ingredients...

*
I boiled the water and started heating through the bacon bits...

I beat the eggs silly, combining the Pepper and Parmesan, with my little egg beater while I cooked the pasta...

Added some of the boiling water, pasta, and egg mixture to the bacon bits, added some more parmesan like suggested. Tossed it all together...

I bowled it, tasted it, and added garlic salt to it.

**
I was disappointed... hence the garlic salt. The 99 cent chef, don't hate me, if somehow you stubble upon my pathetic blog, I really do love your site! When I doubled the recipe so that I would have enough to feed my...uh hem roommate (ok, ok, my MOM), I think I added too much water. The sauce didn't thicken up as nicely as I thought. I also decided to temper my egg prior to adding it to the skillet, which may have added to the too much water. Overall, I rate this dish a 3. It didn't have much taste to it (garlic salt makes everything taste better fyi) and then I started worrying about salmonella poisoning. You can't heat the egg for too long or you'll get scrambled eggs! I might make this again minus the egg (so I don't die) and just use butter and garlic salt with the noodles and sprinkle bacon bits because I am poor and will add anything to a dish to make my dollar stretch!

What did the roommate think? She ate the whole bowl. So, while I wasn't impressed, it did get eaten. Nothing goes to waste in this household!

P.S.* All pictures are mine via cell phone, don't hate.
**And the needles on the counter aren't from an addiction to heroin. I swear! One of my crazy cats has diabetes. He needs two shots a day, but I think he likes it because of the abundance of kitty treats he gets because we feel bad for stabbing him!

Fan of Blogs

HELLO?? IS ANYONE THERE? Probably not...Oh well, I don't mind talking to myself anyways.
I have always been a fan of blogs. My bookmarks are outrageously long lists of crafts, weddings, and FOOD. The only problem is I don't set aside much time for crafts, I am nowhere near getting married (hello, I am 22 and 3/4 :) and I probably waste more of my time staring at food made by others than I do actually reproducing it. So, whats my excuse you might ask? I just graduated College (4months ago...eek) and I have no income. How can I possibly justify spending what little savings I have on crafts and food? Because I can? And I would waste it on food anyways (evil fast food, they should really warn you about the 15lbs you gain after college, not as lovely as the freshman 15). I mean really, food is the love of my life, next to the real love of my life (hey boyfriend), but thankfully he doesn't get too jealous because he loves food just at much as I do. So, while I try to figure out my life and hopefully find a job to fund my addictions, I'd like to document my adventures of crafting, obsess over and share everything wedding pretty, and of course, help archive the recipes I will dare to reproduce! And hey, blogger is free, why the heck not blog?
